Arrested for fatal knife attack in February

EAST PALO ALTO — A 19-year-old East Palo Alto man was arrested Friday in reference to a fatal stabbing in February, police said.

The suspect, identified as Ernesto Alexis Mora Samayoa, was already incarcerated for an unrelated crime, East Palo Alto Police Chief Jeff Liu said in a news release.

The stabbing happened at University Avenue and Bell Street just before 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 8.

When officers arrived, they found two men affected by stab wounds. One was treated on the scene for minor injuries, while the opposite was taken to Stanford Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The second man died of his injuries in hospital on March 2nd. He was identified as Frank Finney, 60, of East Palo Alto.

Police haven’t released a motive for the stabbing.

In March, police released video surveillance footage of the attack. The footage showed the attack in addition to a big white SUV, the motive force of which appeared to have witnessed the attack.

Liu thanked “the community members who contributed to this investigation” within the press release.

He also thanked the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, the county's forensic laboratory and Mothers Against Murder, which offered a $10,000 reward for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of the person chargeable for the murder.
