Lauren Sanchez and Sydney Sweeney defy critics

It's unknown if Lauren Sanchez and Sydney Sweeney's paths ever crossed in Hollywood, however the two famous women could have met for coffee or a spa day to exchange tips about easy methods to silence critics , who’ve drawn attention to themselves on social media this week by insulting them or belittling their appearance and skilled skills.

Each woman, in her own way, clapped back at high-profile critics who made headlines this week. Sanchez did this by posting a not-so-cryptic comment about “leading with kindness” on Instagram Story, seemingly deflecting famously provocative New York restaurateur Keith McNally's insults against her. Page Six reports.

Seemingly out of the blue, McNally, the owner of celebrity hotspot Balthazar, said on Instagram on Monday that the previous LA TV news anchor was “absolutely disgusting” and said that she and her fiancé, multi-billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, “an ugly and ugly girl” are (expletive) smug looking couple.”

Sanchez also appeared to reply to McNally with one other post by which he shared an image with the message: “People will love you.” People will hate you. And none of this may have anything to do with you.”

Meanwhile, Sweeney, star of the recent hit romantic comedy Anyone But You, was the talk of a classic film screening outside New York last week. Veteran film producer Carol Baum was the guest of honor and lashed out at Sweeney during an onstage interview with New York Times film critic Janet Maslin. News of Baum's comments appeared within the Daily Mail and other media outlets this week.

“There's an actress that everyone loves now: Sydney Sweeney,” Baum said of the 26-year-old rising star. “I don’t understand Sydney Sweeney.”

Baum said she saw “Anyone But You” on the plane to New York because she wanted to grasp “why everyone was talking about her.” The producer, whose credits include “Father of the Bride,” “Shining Through” and “Dead Ringers,” the 1988 film shown on the screening, called “Anyone But You” “unwatchable.”

Baum said she brought up the Sweeney phenomenon in a category she teaches on the University of Southern California: “I said to my class, 'Explain this girl to me.' She's not pretty, she will't act. Why is she so hot?'” Baum said, “No one had an answer.”

In response, Sweeney had her publicist issue an announcement denouncing the best way an industry skilled selected to “attack another woman.” Page Six reports.

The “Euphoria” star's rep added, “If she's learned this over her decades in the industry and thinks it's appropriate to teach it to her students, that's shameful.”

Fans of Sweeney and Sanchez also got here to their defense this week.

“Carol Baum is jealous of Sydney Sweeney's looks and popularity, two things Baum never had,” one person wrote on X. Page Six reports. Another person said Sweeney received two Emmy nominations for “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” and was headlining movies and producing at age 26. This person also said, “Carol Baum, whose resume has had nothing relevant for 30 years, should suspend this.”

As for Sanchez, she received support from other famous women, including Chrissy Teigen, Jerry Seinfeld's wife Jessica Seinfeld, and MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle. Jessica Seinfeld said McNally's post “is a reflection of his twisted, pathetic and vile mind.”

Ruhle said: “Social media is fun, but this isn’t. It's just mean, for no reason. If we all took a breath and thought about what it feels like to be mocked and teased, we would do a lot less of it.”
