The hits keep coming for the Red Sox.

A Boston roster already decimated by injuries in 2024 received more bad news on Tuesday when star third baseman Rafael Devers left the team's eventual 10-7 loss to the Cleveland Guardians resulting from knee discomfort.

After the loss, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said the team may have to take a more in-depth take a look at Devers' knee – with further updates available Wednesday.

“We're discussing taking a picture just to make sure everything's okay,” Cora said. “It came out of nowhere. There was a play he made in the seventh… He felt it there. We’ll know more tomorrow.”

Devers, who went 1-for-2 on the plate with two walks and a two-run double on Tuesday, left the sport early within the eighth inning with Bobby Dalbec replacing him at third base.

Red Sox starter Garrett Whitlock also left Tuesday's game early – exiting after just 4 innings and 56 pitches resulting from left oblique tightness. The right winger noted after the sport that Boston's decision to take him out of the sport was more of a “precautionary measure.”

It's already been a difficult season for the 27-year-old Devers, who missed 4 straight games last week while suffering a nagging shoulder injury. He's batting just .205 up to now this season, with two home runs and five RBI.
