Brentwood man charged with child pornography and firearms charges

OAKLAND – A Brentwood man was charged Friday with possession of kid pornography and an unregistered short-barreled rifle, in line with the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Michael Patterson was arrested following an undercover operation by the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, in line with government arrest records. During an operation in May 2023, Patterson allegedly had a web based conversation with an officer posing as a 13-year-old girl and arranged to fulfill and perform sexual acts.

Law enforcement officials allegedly found over 600 videos and 1,200 still images depicting child sexual abuse on various electronic devices belonging to him, in addition to dozens of firearms, firearm components, ammunition boxes, and firearms manufacturing machines and components, including a computer-controlled gun manufacturing machine. Three of the firearms were unregistered short-barreled rifles and one was an unregistered fully automatic machine gun, the arrest memo said.

Patterson was held pending trial Thursday and is scheduled to seem before U.S. District Judge Haywood S. Gilliam Jr. in Oakland on June 26. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison with possible restitution if convicted of kid pornography, and 10 years in prison with a $10,000 wonderful if convicted of possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle.
