Google and Rivian Automotive are cutting Bay Area jobs as tech layoffs proceed

Google and Rivian Automotive have decided to chop more tech jobs within the Bay Area, in keeping with official state government filings. This is a worrying reminder that the necessary industry continues to look for methods to scale back labor costs.

Google has decided to chop 57 jobs in San Francisco. These follow Google's recent decision to chop 50 jobs in Sunnyvale.

Rivian Automotive plans to chop 29 jobs in Palo Alto. The electric vehicle maker also decided to chop jobs in Southern California.

Both firms said the layoffs could be everlasting, in keeping with documents filed with the state EDD.

Google said it plans to make its layoffs effective June 9.

Rivian Automotive announced that the workforce reductions would occur on June 18.

Since the tech layoffs began greater than two years ago, these 10 firms have shed probably the most tech jobs within the Bay Area. The period extends from January 2022 to early May 2024:

– Facebook app owner Meta Platforms, 5,195 layoffs

— Tesla, 3,051 job cuts

– Google, 2,564 headcount reductions

– Cisco Systems, 1,754 layoffs

— Broadcom, 1,267 job cuts

— Salesforce, 1,202 headcount reductions

– Intel, 1,064 layoffs

— Twitter, 900 job cuts

— PayPal, 772 headcount reductions

– LinkedIn, 711 layoffs

Apple also revealed plans for layoffs that included the Bay Area. The iPhone maker announced in recent weeks that it will cut 614 jobs within the region.

Since the present wave of cuts began in early 2022, greater than 42,300 technology jobs have been eliminated within the Bay Area.
