This weekend, Juneteenth was celebrated locally and across the country.
The holiday celebrates the day in 1865 when all enslaved black people learned they’d been free of bondage. In 2021, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution declaring June 19 as Juneteenth, the national day of independence.
Residents celebrated Saturday in the course of the annual Juneteenth Festival in downtown San Jose. This is the African American Community Service Agency's forty third annual Juneteenth In the Streets Festival.
