AmazonThe Prime Day Mega Sale event will return on July 16 and 17, the corporate announced Tuesday.
As in previous years, Amazon announced that there shall be hundreds of thousands of deals on the event and that there shall be “new discounts up to every five minutes during select time periods” throughout the event.
The company announced that it would once more offer invitation-only deals. Prime subscription club members can request an invite to receive discounts on items that normally sell out quickly. It already introduced invitation-only deals for Prime members last 12 months.
Amazon launched Prime Day in 2015 to supply discounts exclusively to members of its core subscription plan. Prime costs $139 per 12 months and includes perks like fast shipping and access to streaming services. The discount bonanza is designed partially to lure latest Prime subscribers, promote Amazon's services, and boost sales during what is generally a quieter shopping period.
The event can be a giant sales driver for other retailers, who often host competing events during or around Prime Day. Walmart on Tuesday announced its own “Walmart Deals” event, which runs from July 8 to 11. In recent years Goal, Kohl's And Best buy have began similar events.
Last 12 months, total online sales within the U.S. during Amazon's Prime Day event reached a record $12.7 billion, surpassing the $11.9 billion total in 2022, in line with Adobe Analytics. Amazon said it sold 375 million items through the two-day sale, up from 300 million in 2022.
