Automotive-pedestrian collision in San Jose causes twenty seventh traffic fatality

SAN JOSE – San Jose's twenty seventh traffic fatality of 2024 occurred near the downtown district when an individual was struck while lying within the roadway, police reported Tuesday.

The fatal accident was reported on the morning of July 28, San Jose police reported.

Police responded to a report of a automotive crash involving a pedestrian at 6:18 a.m. Sunday, police officials said.

“A white 2019 Toyota Highlander, occupied by an adult male driver, exited the driveway of an apartment complex northbound onto South 11th Street at a slow rate of speed,” police reported.

Traffic on South eleventh Street is one-way northbound at this point.

“An adult male pedestrian was lying in the roadway when the Toyota SUV struck him,” San Jose police said.

The pedestrian lying on the road was taken to a neighborhood hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

“The driver remained on site and is cooperating with the investigation,” police said.

According to San Jose police, the incident is the twenty seventh fatal crash and twenty seventh traffic fatality in 2024.

The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the deceased pedestrian.
