Biden is not going to drop out, campaign team stresses in recent memo

President Joe Biden's campaign insisted on Friday that he’ll remain at the highest of the Democratic ticket, stressing in a brand new memo that Biden still enjoys voter support whilst a growing variety of Democratic lawmakers are calling for him to drop out.

“Although voters repeatedly mention President Biden's age when contacted, our target voters – both repeat voters and true swing voters – still plan to vote for him. This makes clear that the debate has not hurt support among the voters who will decide this election,” said the memo, first reported by NBC News.

“Joe Biden has made it abundantly clear: he is in the race and he wants to win. Moreover, he is the presumptive nominee; there is no plan for an alternate candidate,” the memo said.

Nine House Democrats and one Democratic senator on Friday joined those calling on Biden to desert his re-election bid, bringing the variety of congressional Democrats urging him to quit to 32.

Martin Henrich of New Mexico was the third Democratic senator to publicly support Biden's withdrawal from the candidacy, following Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) and Senator Jon Tester (D-MT).

“In a few weeks, Joe Biden will be the official candidate. It is high time we stopped fighting each other,” the Kanninen memo said. “The only one who wins when we fight each other is Donald Trump.”

However, Kanninen admitted that many Polls show Biden is behind Trumpand wrote: “I'm not going to sugarcoat the state of the race: we have our hands full trying to win this November.”

Biden, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, is currently in self-imposed quarantine in Rehoboth, Delaware.

Jen O'Malley Dillon, head of the Biden campaign team, said on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Friday that the president will return to the campaign trail next week.
