Red Sox lose to Yankees in series finale 8-2

BOSTON (AP) — Carlos Rodón pitched into the seventh inning, Gleyber Torres hit a two-run single in New York's three-run first inning and the Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 8-2 on Sunday night, winning a Series for under the second time of their last 12 tries.

New York won the ultimate two games of the three-game series against its longtime rival after blowing a late lead within the opener on Friday night. It was the Yankees' first series win over Boston in three tries this season.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. batted fifth, going 1-for-5 with a single and playing center field in his debut for the Yankees after they acquired him from Miami for 3 minor league players on Saturday.

Rob Refsnyder and Connor Wong opened the fourth inning with back-to-back home runs for the Red Sox, who’ve lost seven of nine games because the All-Star break.

Aaron Judge hit an RBI single for the Yankees after reaching a career-high six times in 10 innings of their 11-8 comeback victory on Saturday. He hit a house run in each of the primary two games of the series.

Rodón (11-7) allowed two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, had seven strikeouts and one walk. In 17 of twenty-two starts this yr, he held opponents to 3 runs or fewer.

Oswaldo Cabrera hit a two-run double within the eighth inning to win the sport against former Yankees relief pitcher Greg Weissert.

For the second day in a row, the Yankees were ahead by three runs in the primary inning.

But unlike the primary two games of the series, when the teams scored a combined 35 runs and lost leads at the tip, they managed to carry on to their lead.

“This part is nice, just thrown in there, thrown right in there to compete with my new teammates,” he said before the sport.

Yankees: Manager Aaron Boone said slugger Giancarlo Stanton will come off the injured list Monday in Philadelphia. Stanton has not played since straining his left hamstring while running the bases on June 22. … Chisholm slipped on the bag at second base and slammed his face into the backside of Boston second baseman Romy Gonzalez, but Chisholm stayed in the sport.

Red Sox: Manager Alex Cora said 1B Triston Casas will begin a rehab project at Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. He has been out of motion since mid-April with a strained rib.

Red Sox: RHP Nick Pivetta (4-7, 4.50 ERA) is scheduled to start out the primary of three games against Seattle at Fenway Park on Monday. RHP Logan Gilbert (6-6, 2.72) is the projected starter for the Mariners.
