A lady was fatally hit by a automobile during an attempted robbery at a Newport Beach mall.
At around 3:30 p.m., the 2 were walking near the Barnes & Noble store after they were reportedly attacked by two men, one in all whom was armed with a handgun. During the struggle, Patricia McKay was dragged into the car parking zone where the lads's accomplice was waiting in a Toyota Camry.
One of the robbers jumped into the automobile and the motive force sped up and ran over McKay. The second robber, who was still on foot, fired his pistol thrice after which got into the Camry. The three fled within the automobile.
No one was hit by the gunfire and McKay's husband was not injured.
Police pursued the automobile north on Interstate 405. At some point, the automobile stopped in Cypress and one in all the lads fled on foot. The other two drove away, then abandoned the automobile in a South Gate neighborhood and likewise fled on foot.
Three suspects were caught and booked into prison on charges of murder, robbery with a firearm and conspiracy, Oberon said. They were a 26-year-old man from Compton and two 18-year-old men, one from Los Angeles and one from Lancaster.
The brazen robbery attempt in broad daylight frightened shoppers and employees of the shopping mall.
The police couldn’t immediately say what, if anything, was stolen.
A representative of the New Zealand Consulate General in Los Angeles said Wednesday that the office was supporting the victim's family but declined to comment further attributable to privacy concerns.
