Late summer means one other weekend of festivals within the Bay Area. Here are some highlights:
Palo Alto Festival of the Arts: Celebrating the forty first yr of this event on University Avenue, it’s going to feature 250 booths of superb and contemporary arts and crafts, the Italian Street Painting Expo along Tasso Street, live music on two stages, and food, wine and microbrew booths. Niles Antiques Market and Flea Market: On Sunday, August 25, quite a few dealers will gather on the streets of this historic Fremont neighborhood for the sixtieth annual Antiques and Collectibles Sale. Official hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., but bargain hunters often arrive earlier with flashlights. Admission is free. 37482 Niles Blvd. and surrounding blocks. Details: www.niles.org
Proud of Silicon Valley: Get Loud Festival, 6-11 p.m. Saturday, August 24, followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, August 25, from Julian and Market Streets to the festival from noon-6 p.m. Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park, 1 Paseo De San Antonio, San Jose. Rockridge Rock-N-Walk: The merchants and restaurants of Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood host this multi-block concert and festival featuring 20 bands, dozens of artists and vendors, a health and healing fair, kids' crafts, food tastings, a puppy walk and pet adoptions. Goodguys West Coast Nationals: This thirty seventh annual event will feature greater than 3,500 hot rods, classic American-made cars and trucks, and modified vehicles on the Alameda Fairgrounds. The event will include contests, special exhibits, a swap meet, and a kids' area. Hours are Friday through Saturday, August 23 and 24, from 8 a.m. to five p.m. and Sunday, August 25, from 8 a.m. to three p.m. Admission: $20-$28, additional parking. 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton.
