DUBLIN – Five adults followed a teen into the locker room at Dublin High School and attacked him, in response to a message from the college's principal to oldsters.
Friday's attack prompted police and emergency services to Dublin High School, but details of the victim's injuries weren’t immediately available. A message from headteacher Maureen Byrne said police had identified among the attackers and were working to arrest everyone involved.
“We are outraged that this happened on our campus,” Byrne's message said. “The school must be a place where everyone feels safe and supported. We are working with police to combat this to the fullest extent of the law.”
It was the second time in per week that police were called to campus. On August 19, a prank call a few fake gun fight led to the college being briefly locked down.
A Dublin Police spokesman confirmed that the incident was being investigated, but said a public statement was being prepared. He didn’t confirm any arrests or say whether investigators knew the motive.
A coach and several other football players who were within the locker room helped prevent the attack from continuing, Byrne said.
