OAKLAND – Two people were injured in two separate shootings in Oakland early this morning, including one outside the Summer Jam concert venue, police reports said.
The first incident occurred shortly after midnight within the west car parking zone of the Oakland Arena following the annual KMEL Summer Jam concert, which featured hip-hop artists E-40, Jeezy, Larussell and Bossman DLow, amongst others.
Authorities said the shooting stemmed from an altercation that broke out in the course of the concert at the sector, allegedly because one group was being too loud and blocking the view of one other group.
The group that was allegedly harassed by other concertgoers left the venue first and waited within the car parking zone until the opposite group left the venue.
When the 2 encountered the second group again, a physical altercation ensued, and a 30-year-old woman from Vallejo allegedly shot a 34-year-old woman from Stockton, hitting her within the legs and arms.
The victim was a part of the group that allegedly obstructed others in the course of the concert.
The suspect turned himself in to police on the scene and the firearm was confiscated. No further injuries were reported. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm.
Meanwhile, one other shooting occurred around 2:10 a.m. within the 1700 block of Franklin Street.
A 34-year-old man was approached on the road by one other man. The two men didn’t know one another.
As the victim attempted to flee, he was shot within the upper body. He took himself to the hospital, where his condition is reportedly stable.
No information has been released concerning the suspect within the second incident.
The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers are offering a $5,000 reward for information resulting in the shooter's arrest.
Tips could be reported to the Oakland Police Department at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
