Playful People Productions starts a brand new season

Playful People Productions is offering classes to assist attendees of the San Jose theater company's “Roaring Twenties” profit on September 21 get into the party variety of the last century.

Even in the event that they aren't heading to the Saratoga Foothill Club for the fundraiser, individuals who need to learn the Charleston and Lindy Hop can take a category on Twenties and Thirties ballroom dancing on Sept. 15. That evening, Lucas Leary will lead a workshop on vintage-look makeup. Both classes are for ages 13 and up.

Before Playful People stages the primary production of its 2024-25 season, the corporate will host an acting workshop entitled “Scene With Others” with Emily Pennington on October 6. The workshop is geared toward actors ages 10 and up.

Playful People Productions was founded in 2010 as an inclusive, family-oriented theater company and has operated as a nonprofit since 2017. Originally offering classes, camps and shows for kids, the corporate has evolved to supply similar classes for adults and host intergenerational performances where relations can perform together.

The solid of Everybody's Talking About Jamie, a coming-of-age musical from lyricist Tom MacRae and composer Dan Gillespie Sells, is a mixture of adults and teenagers. Inspired by the British television documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16, the show is a couple of young man who desires to wear a dress to prom. The Playful People production, directed by Lysander Abadia, runs October 26 to November 3.

In November, the Historic Hoover Theatre will host one other show about acceptance, this time with a solid of 4- to 12-year-olds. Honk! JR. is a family-friendly musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling, with music by George Stiles and book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe. Pennington will direct the show with student directors Eliza Singer and Sayde Derrington, with vocal direction by The T Saffold.

November also marks the start of registration for Playful People's two spring shows, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Frozen JR.” The former, a 1972 musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, may have a double solid of teens ages 12 to 16 and a family solid for those ages 16 and older. Rehearsals will begin January 21, 2025, and performances can be April 10-19, 2025.

Based on the 2018 Broadway musical, Disney's Frozen JR brings Elsa, Anna and the magical land of Arendelle to the stage with a solid of 4- to 12-year-olds. The show includes all of the songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, in addition to five recent songs written for the Broadway production. Rehearsals begin March 3, 2025, and performances can be May 16-25, 2025.
