After becoming known for his calm and composed demeanor ahead of his pommel horse routine on the 2024 Paris Olympics, fans compared Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik to Superman. The bespectacled athlete helped the U.S. gymnastics team win its first medal in 16 years on the Paris Games last week. The Worcester gymnast won one other bronze medal in the person final of the event last Saturday with a rating of 15.300.
Nedoroscik became a web-based sensation. He was pictured resting peacefully in his glasses before making history – like Superman's alter ego Clark Kent come to life. And identical to Kent, the Olympian has had a “Lois Lane” by his side for the past eight years. Her name: Tess McCracken.
The couple met the summer before their freshman yr at Penn State University, where they were each on the gymnastics team. She retired from the game in 2020 but traveled to Paris to support Nedoroscik in his competitions.
They've embraced their newfound virality and love all of the memes. McCracken modified her account name to X to @stephens_gf and posted a bio “Ms. Pommel Horse.”
“The fact that I went viral on the Internet was such an unexpected side effect of this whole adventure,” McCracken said. told NBC.
With greater than 1.5 million likes this TikTok by @nbcolympics features clips from Nedoroscik and the song “You, Me and Steve” by Garfunkel and Oates.
Nedoroscik keeps a cool head in all areas of life, not only in competition.
“None of us are upset,” McCracken to E! News“We disagree, we discuss our logic, we think about it. And that's really great.”
McCracken, 26, is from Texas and in addition earned a master's degree in biotechnology from Penn State. The couple now live together in Sarasota, Florida.
