49ers player Ricky Pearsall leaves hospital after shooting

49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has been released from San Francisco General Hospital and is starting his recovery from a gunshot wound to the chest sustained Saturday, the team announced Sunday afternoon.

Pearsall was shot by a 17-year-old from Tracy during an attempted robbery near Union Square in San Francisco, police said.

A video shows Pearsall walking to an ambulance under his own power, with paramedics standing by and applying pressure to his wound before he sits on a stretcher.

“San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital this afternoon where he continues to get better from a gunshot wound to the chest.

“He and his family, as well as the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, EMS, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital,” the 49ers said in a press release.

Pearsall, a 23-year-old rookie, was initially listed in serious but stable condition on the hospital, the 49ers said in a press release, asking for privacy for his or her first-round draft pick and his family.

Pearsall's motherErin posted on Facebook after the shooting that the bullet that struck her son didn’t hit any vital organs, adding that her son was “incredibly lucky.” She said the bullet entered his chest and exited his back.

The suspect, who’s in police custody, also suffered a gunshot wound throughout the altercation.

It stays to be seen when Pearsall will soon give you the chance to return to the football field and start his rookie season within the NFL.

John Lynch, the 49ers' general manager, went to the hospital to go to Pearsall after the incident. Meanwhile, a team party went ahead as planned Saturday night, where coach Kyle Shanahan traditionally welcomes players after the initial preseason roster is ready. Shanahan was photographed with wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, in addition to the music icon. Rick Rosswho posted videos in his Instagram story.

Two years ago, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. was shot twice in his right leg during an attempted robbery and carjacking. Robinson was within the hospital for only one night, but recovered quickly enough from his surgery to be back playing six weeks later. He spent the primary 4 games of the 2022 season on the non-football injured list and rushed for 797 yards in the subsequent 12 games.

Pearsall's wound gave the impression to be on the upper right side of his chest. He missed three weeks of coaching camp because of a partial shoulder dislocation he suffered on Aug. 6. He resumed training last week after the injury, a reoccurrence of a dislocation he suffered in spring training. A hamstring injury throughout the summer prevented him from practicing throughout the first week of coaching camp.
