Angel Reese publicizes she’s going to miss this season attributable to a wrist injury

Sports news

Angel Reese announced on social media that she has sustained a season-ending injury: a small bone tear in her wrist that can require surgery on Tuesday.

“I fell on my hand when I was doing the and-one when I fell backwards (and) fell on my hand and I have a little crack in the bone,” Reese said in a video she posted on TikTok late Sunday night.

“The doctors told me I could either not have surgery or I could have surgery. The risk of not having surgery – I could literally get arthritis at 22. That was not an option. The bone could literally break and completely shatter. Right now it looks like a hairline fracture… They're going to put a little screw in it. And I didn't want it to get any bigger.”

Reese said she’s going to should wear a tough solid for 4 weeks after which a soft solid for 2 weeks.

“Long term, I literally wouldn't have been able to play anymore because healing in that area is very difficult due to little to no blood flow,” she said, pointing to her right wrist, which was wrapped in a soft black solid.

Reese, the No. 7 pick within the draft, finished the season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, the very best rebounding average in WNBA history. Reese also set a rookie record with 26 double-doubles, her most up-to-date of which got here Friday night in a 92-78 win over Los Angeles.

Reese has been close with Indiana rookie Caitlin Clark for the reason that two met within the NCAA championship two years ago. Reese's LSU team emerged victorious and led the WNBA in rankings, attendance and merchandise sales this season.

“It's always sad when you see someone hurt, especially people you came into this league with,” Clark said Sunday. “You want her to be done for the year. She obviously had a historic year and did incredible things.”

“To me, her drive to play against her is up there — if not the best in the league. She just doesn't stop working. I thought she had a great year. I thought she came into the league and really did what she's done well her whole career, since I've known her. It's really devastating. You never want to see that from a player.”

Reese said she’s going to proceed to coach and take part in off-court ventures during her recovery.

“So in the meantime, I'm going to be in my cast for four weeks… during that time, I'm just going to be lifting weights, running, conditioning, shooting with my other hand, dribbling and doing stuff with my other hand and working on my diet,” Reese said. “(I'll) still model, still podcast, still be a bad guy… and support my teammates from afar. Well, not from afar, but from the bench… I still believe we're going to make the playoffs.”

In the video, Reese responded to social media speculation that she was pregnant, saying it was not true.

“That was never an issue… I want to make this very clear: I don't have a man to have kids with, I don't have a ring to have kids with, I'm 22 and I don't have kids. And I'm not going to have kids,” she said. “So that's not going to happen anytime soon. I just want you all to know that. Because I know you all like to have a few clicks.”

Chicago is currently within the last playoff spot, one game ahead of Atlanta. The Sky play against Washington on Wednesday.
