SAN FRANCISCO — A senior executive at OpenAI who served as interim CEO for a number of days during a turbulent period last 12 months has announced she’s going to leave the unreal intelligence company.
Mira Murati, OpenAI's chief technology officer, said in a written statement on Wednesday that after careful consideration, she “made the difficult decision to leave OpenAI.”
“I’m stepping back because I want to create time and space for my own explorations,” she said.
In her farewell statement, she spoke positively concerning the company and its CEO Sam Altman, describing it as “at the forefront of AI innovation” and saying it's hard to depart a spot you’re keen on.
Altman later responded to Murati's post on X, expressing his gratitude for her service to the corporate.
“It's hard to overstate how much Mira has meant to OpenAI, our mission, and to all of us personally,” he wrote. Altman also said the corporate will announce more information concerning the leadership transition in the approaching days.
Murati was suddenly catapulted to the corporate's interim CEO late last 12 months after the board fired Altman, sparking an uproar within the AI industry. The company later hired one other interim CEO before reinstating Altman in his leadership role and replacing many of the board members who ousted him.
