Tesla announced that the corporate will launch its “Full Self Driving” driver assistance product in Europe and China early next 12 months.
In a post on the social media platform XElon Musk's electric vehicle company said on Thursday that the service – available as a paid add-on for Tesla customers – will launch within the two regions in the primary quarter of 2025, “subject to regulatory approval.”
Tesla still must receive regulatory approval to launch its FSD product in Europe and China, but Musk said in July that he expects approval by the tip of 2024.
So-called Full Self Driving (FSD) is a key pillar of Musk's technique to make Tesla a more AI-centric company and advance the event of self-driving technologies.
Despite the name on the product, FSD will not be in a position to make its vehicles fully autonomous. Drivers must still sit behind the wheel, keep their eyes on the road and take control when needed.
FSD is an upgrade to Tesla's Autopilot driver assistance system, which is already available in Europe and China. In China, Tesla currently offers a premium option called Enhanced Autopilot.
Since 2016, Musk has promised investors that Tesla will deliver technology that can enable its existing cars to drive completely autonomously. The company has to this point didn’t keep this promise, while competitors comparable to Waymo within the US and Pony.ai There are already business robotaxi firms in China.
