The first week of September sees the very last of summer weather, filling the Bay Area with sweltering temperatures, light breezes, and muggy air.
After a Labor Day with a cool breeze and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the change seems unusual. But it's normal for it to warm up again for a number of days before turning into typical fall weather, says National Weather Service meteorologist Roger Gass. “Basically, it's almost back to normal for this time of year,” Gass said. “Other than that, there's nothing too eventful.”
Livermore and Concord residents can expect sweaty temperatures of 38 degrees and lightweight wind gusts of as much as 13 km/h from Tuesday through Thursday.
In the South Bay cities, including San Jose and Santa Clara, temperatures will rise three to 4 degrees above 90 degrees and a rather brisker breeze of 17 km/h can be felt. Along the coast from San Francisco to Palo Alto, temperatures in cities will rise to above 25 to below 27 degrees.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is warning residents to remain indoors throughout the hottest a part of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday because the realm is experiencing health-harming concentrations of ground-level ozone. High levels of the pollutant are harmful to respiration, especially for young children, seniors and other people with respiratory and heart conditions, the district explains.
