The driver has since been arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a press release.
The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. Friday in a parking zone within the 14900 block of Camden Avenue.
Hernandez said an initial investigation revealed that a person was doing doughnuts in a white 2006 Ford pickup truck when a girl within the passenger seat fell out and landed on the asphalt.
“Then the passenger was hit by the pickup truck,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez said the person took the girl to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will release her identity after it’s confirmed and her next of kin has been notified.
The death was the thirty seventh traffic fatality on town's streets this yr. During the identical period last yr, there have been already 36 traffic fatalities in San Jose.
Hernandez said the motive force and two other adult male passengers cooperated with the investigation.
Alcohol was determined to be the explanation for the crash and the motive force was taken to county jail, Hernandez said.
