Iran's supreme leader says Hamas leader's death won’t stop 'Axis of Resistance'

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar wouldn’t stop the “Axis of Resistance” and that Hamas would live to tell the tale.

“His loss is undoubtedly painful for the axis of resistance, but this front has not stopped advancing with the martyrdom of prominent figures,” Khamenei said in a press release. “Hamas is alive and will remain alive.”

Sinwar, the architect of Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel that sparked the war in Gaza, was killed in a shootout with Israeli forces on Wednesday after a year-long manhunt and his death was announced on Thursday.

“He was a shining face of resistance and struggle. With iron determination he stood against the oppressive and aggressive enemy. With wisdom and courage, he dealt them the irreparable blow of October 7, which is recorded in the history of this region. “Then he ascended to the sky of martyrs with honor and pride,” Khamenei said.

The “Axis of Resistance,” built with years of Iranian support, includes Hamas, the Lebanese Hezbollah group, the Houthi movement in Yemen and various Shiite groups in Iraq and Syria. The groups describe themselves as resistance to the influence of Israel and the USA within the Middle East.

“As always, with God’s grace and help, we will remain alongside the sincere fighters and combatants,” Khamenei said.
