SAN JOSE — Tech firms have announced plans to chop greater than 100 jobs within the Bay Area in a brand new round of cuts to the woozy sector, in line with latest official state government filings.
Infineon Technologies Americas and Hanwha Vision America are the newest technology firms to announce job cuts, this time affecting employees in San Jose, Santa Clara and Milpitas, in line with information from the state Department of Employment Development.
Separately, Amyris, a biotech company that filed for bankruptcy in December 2023 but successfully exited Chapter 11 proceedings to restructure its funds in May 2024, revealed plans for layoffs in Emeryville.
Here are the main points of recent rounds of downsizing of engineering or biotech employees within the Bay Area, in line with WARN notices to the state EDD:
— Infineon Technologies Americas is cutting 105 jobs within the South Bay. Those include 104 layoffs in San Jose and one job lost in Milpitas, the semiconductor company reported within the EDD filing.
– Hanwha Vision America, a cloud-based video surveillance systems provider, has decided to eliminate 23 jobs in Santa Clara.
— Amyris, a biotech company that genetically engineers microbes to make a variety of products including medicines and medicines, is cutting 50 jobs in Emeryville.
Infineon employees are expected to lose their jobs on Oct. 11, Amyris has scheduled layoffs for Dec. 2 and Hanwha Vision plans to implement the job cuts on Dec. 4, in line with the WARN notices.
All firms described the layoffs as everlasting.
In 2022, 2023 and 2024, technology firms announced plans to chop greater than 47,500 jobs within the Bay Area.
But concurrently the layoffs, tech firms have created hundreds of jobs within the Bay Area in areas they see as promising, akin to artificial intelligence, fintech, health technology, cybersecurity and green energy.
