Kazuyoshi Miura: Japanese soccer player, 57, is about to enter his fortieth season as knowledgeable

Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura plans to increase his skilled soccer profession into his fortieth season.

Miura, 57, plays for Atletico Suzuka within the Japan Football League (JFL) – the fourth tier of Japanese football – and is on loan from second division club Yokohama FC. When he made his debut for Suzuka in July, he became the oldest player to play within the JFL.

Miura joined Suzuka a month earlier and says he plans to proceed playing for them within the 2025 season. “I had a one-and-a-half year contract (since summer 2024). I think it was a natural progression,” he said of that Kyodo news Press agency.

The Japanese football calendar runs from March to November and Miura shall be 58 when the brand new season begins next yr.

Known as “King Kazu”, Miura's skilled profession began in 1986 with Brazilian club Santos. In his long profession he worked for Palmeiras, Coritiba, Genoa, Dinamo Zagreb, Vissel Kobe and Sydney FC, amongst others. He previously spent 2022 on loan at Suzuka before temporarily joining Portuguese second division side Oliveirense in January 2023.

Miura was considered one of the primary Japanese star footballers. He was named Asian Football of the Year in 1992 and scored 55 goals in 89 international appearances between 1990 and 2000. He won the Asian Cup in 1992 and the old Afro-Asian Cup of Nations the next yr.

Miura has won 18 trophies throughout his profession, including 4 Japanese league titles with Tokyo Verdy and the highest flight of Croatian football with Dinamo Zagreb.
