LeBron James says he's taking a break from social media for now

LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James says he’s take a break from social media.

The NBA's all-time leading scorer and Los Angeles Lakers star announced Wednesday on X, the platform formerly called Twitter, and Instagram that he’s leaving his pages. James has 159 million followers on Instagram, 52.9 million on X.

James began the farewell republish something that Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant's longtime manager, posted on X on October twenty fourth.

“We can all acknowledge that sport is the last part of society that generally brings people together. Why can’t reporting do the same?” Kleiman wrote that day. “It’s just click bait when you say it. When the platform is so big, you can make the change and allow us all to escape the negativity of real life. For my part, I find it all a waste of breath.”

James posted a screenshot of Kleiman's post on Instagram and added the caption: “A damn shame what this has come to.” On X, Kleiman's repost simply said: “AMEN!!”

Kleiman has only posted just a few times since his Oct. 24 post, and apparently James doesn't plan on posting much or anything until further notice.

“And with that said, I salute you all! Avoid social media for now. Take care everyone,” James wrote, followed by emojis of a hand holding up two fingers — often symbolizing someone leaving a spot — and a crown, a nod to his nickname “King James.”

James, the NBA's oldest lively player – he turns 40 next month – is a four-time NBA champion and three-time Olympic gold medalist, most recently on the Paris Games this yr.

The Lakers are 10-4, have won six in a row and play Orlando at home next Thursday.
