SANTA CLARA – Neither Nick Bosa nor Trent Williams practiced for the third straight week, and that's not excellent news for a 49ers team seeking to shake a three-game losing streak heading into Sunday's home game against the Chicago Bears.
Bosa was in a position to show enough progress to not be ruled out on Friday, but he’s doubtful. Williams is officially out, as are running back Jordan Mason, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety George Odum
While Bosa has been sidelined since suffering an oblique strain within the third quarter against Seattle on November seventeenth, Williams is on the verge of a break. Mainly because of an ankle injury, but he can be coping with personal issues after his son was stillborn on November twenty fourth.
Left guard Aaron Banks is questionable after missing the 38-10 loss at Buffalo because of a concussion suffered within the loss to Seattle. Safety Talanoa Hufanga can be in query after he returned to practice this week because the 49ers consider whether to activate him from injured reserve.
RUNNING BACK OPTIONS
Isaac Guerendo is anticipated to begin at running back with Patrick Taylor Jr. the subsequent most suitable choice because the 49ers overcome season-ending injuries to Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Mason (ankle) from last Sunday. The 49ers placed McCaffrey back on Injured Reserve on Tuesday after he spent eight weeks on IR with Achilles tendinitis before his activation on Nov. 9. Mason is anticipated to go on IR on Saturday.
For added depth, Israel Abanikanda was released by the New York Jets and Ke'Shawn Vaughn was re-signed to the practice squad.
PURDY, all right
Two weeks after missing the 49ers' 38-10 loss at Green Bay with a shoulder injury, quarterback Brock Purdy experienced no setbacks in his return last Sunday in Buffalo and is at full strength for this game.
“He's good. He had to wait a while, give it rest and make sure it healed,” Shanahan said. “I’m excited to get him back up to speed and get him back training.”
SUFFERS INJURIES
Bears running back D'Andre Swift and wide receiver DJ Moore are each questionable after quadriceps injuries forced them to miss two consecutive practices before Friday's limited return.
Center Ryan Bates (concussion) and safety Elijah Hicks (ankle) are out. Swift's substitute, Roschon Johnson, is not going to play because of a concussion.
DEEBO “IS THE KEY”
Deebo Samuel could also be having considered one of his most up-and-down seasons, but that hasn't diminished his opponents' respect.
Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington said: “Deebo Samuel, he's a very versatile player, can play multiple positions: tailback, slot, wide receiver. “He's the important thing to all the things they need to do.”
Samuel hasn't unlocked the 49ers' offense, either as a wide receiver (38 catches, 531 yards, one touchdown) or as a running back (27 carries, 79 yards, one touchdown).
HALL OF FAME COMPLIMENT
Following McCaffrey's season-ending knee injury, he wrote a lengthy message on Instagram this week expressing his love for the game, winning the admiration of general manager John Lynch. “The deal he wrote was beautiful,” Lynch said on KNBR 680-AM. “I told him, 'Hey, you wrote your Hall of Fame speech, or an excerpt of it.' He explained what football is about and why all of us like it in addition to anyone I actually have ever heard.”
