CAMPBELL – A 34-year-old Campbell man was arrested after a hit-and-run while under the influence on Nov. 27, in accordance with a news release from the Campbell Police Department.
The accident occurred when the suspect drove his Toyota right into a vehicle that was stopped at a red light near Winchester Boulevard and Camden Avenue, police said. The suspect fled the scene.
Authorities situated the suspect at a Safeway, where he initially presented officers with a false ID, police said. During a search of his vehicle, officers found weapons resembling a machete and knives, a baseball bat, a mask for the character “Chucky” from the horror movies “Child's Play”, marijuana and empty CO2 cartridges.
The suspect had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for his arrest – one for driving with a suspended license in Menlo Park and one for drunken driving in San Jose.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by driving under the influence, hit-and-run, operating a vehicle with out a court-ordered breathalyzer interlock device, displaying false identification and driving with a revoked license, authorities said . Police didn’t provide any information concerning the nature of the injuries sustained by the people in the opposite automobile.
“This incident is a reminder of the dangers and consequences of impaired driving,” officials said. “Let’s work together to keep our streets safe.”
