Boston Mayor Michelle Wu gave birth to her third child, a baby girl, on Monday afternoon.

Mira Wu Pewarski checked in weighing 8 kilos, 4 ounces and 20 inches, Wu's office said in a press release opinion. She arrived at 2 p.m. on Monday, the day before her mother's fortieth birthday.

Wu and the newborn are each in good health and Wu is involved along with her senior staff, the mayor's office said.

“Mayor Wu would like to express her deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors and health care workers who made this possible for her family and who work every day to support so many families across the city,” the statement said.

Wu's husband, Conor Pewarski, said the family welcomed Mira into their family. On Monday, January 13, 2025, Wu's sons Blaise and Cass hold baby Mira.

Wu and her husband Conor Pewarski are also parents to 2 older sons, Blaise and Cass. Wu, the primary woman and person of color elected mayor of Boston, said she has no plans to take formal maternity leave.

“Given the nature of the work and the job … I plan to continue to serve in this role and work with my team so that we can make any necessary adjustments, minor adjustments,” she said last summer.

Wu has spoken openly prior to now about bringing her then-young sons to work during her time as a Boston city councilwoman. With Mira's birth, Wu becomes Boston's first mayor to provide birth while in office.

“This is a job where, when important decisions need to be made, I am there to make those decisions, whether I am on vacation with my family or at whatever time. “Certainly a lot of how I work will change as I recover and keep the baby and our family comfortable,” Wu said last month State House News Service.

She added: “I'm going to be working from home a lot more… and I'm going to be checking in with my team very regularly, doing a lot more Zooms and trying to participate from there.”
