Discount provider Frontier Airlines is increasing service in New York and planning recent non-stop routes to key destinations American Airlines Turnstiles with fares starting at $20.
The airline plans to start service between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Miami International Airport on March 30.
For a round-trip flight departing April 1 and returning per week later, Frontier's website showed a price of $38 for a basic ticket, which doesn’t include seat project or carry-on baggage and is non-refundable. The same trip on American Airlines cost $142 on those dates and included a carry-on bag plus a soft drink and a snack.
Frontier has a base in Miami, however the airport is dominated by Americans.
Starting April 22, Frontier may also introduce flights between New York's Kennedy Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth 4 times per week.
Daily nonstop service between JFK and Los Angeles International Airport is scheduled to start on May 1.
According to analytics firm Cirium, Frontier has lower than 1% market share of capability on the New York City area's three major airports.
JFK service launched last June, and with recent additions this spring there might be eight flights from the airport.
Frontier expressed optimism about its expansion, saying the corporate plans to return to double-digit profit margins around mid-2025. Shares of the ultra-low-cost carrier are up 17% year-to-date, and the corporate raised its fourth-quarter outlook to a pretax margin of 4% from just breakeven.
