As Los Angeles continues to battle wildfires which have destroyed parts of the town and killed a minimum of 24 people, corporations are pledging hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to support the relief effort.
On Monday, Netflix And Comcast Each announced $10 million in donations, divided amongst groups equivalent to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, World Central Kitchen and the American Red Cross. Both corporations also said they’d support employees directly affected by the fires.
“The next few years will be a time of rebuilding for many of us, requiring creativity, vision, determination and perseverance. When you look at some of the hardest-hit neighborhoods, it's hard to imagine rebuilding – but we will, and that's what we will do. “We will come back stronger than before,” said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos wrote.
Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal, which has a large presence in Los Angeles with its studios.
“We express our deep appreciation to first responders for their tireless and courageous efforts,” said Brian Roberts, Comcast Chairman and CEO notice.
Other media and entertainment corporations, lots of which have outstanding presences within the Los Angeles area, had previously pledged to donate to relief efforts. The Walt Disney Company announced On Saturday it announced it was committing $15 million to firefighting and reconstruction efforts. Fox News reported that its parent company Fox Corporation, donated $1 million to the American Red Cross.
gaming platform FanDuel and its parent company, Flutter entertainmentThey donated $250,000 to the disaster relief organization Americares and the LA Fire Department Foundation announced.
The NFL – which moved a playoff game from SoFi Stadium in suburban Los Angeles to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona due to the fires – said its teams and ownership groups would collectively commit $5 million to relief efforts. Twelve Los Angeles sports teams, including the Lakers and Dodgers, separated announced a donation of over $8 million to firefighter aid groups.
food market Hook And Walmart pledged 1 million dollars And $2.5 millionor for relief measures. Health insurer Anthem Blue Cross announced a $10 million donation.
Reuters reported Monday that JPMorgan Chase And Bank of America are also offering payment relief to mortgage customers affected by the wildfires.
Hollywood stars and entertainment figures have also declared that they’re supporting the fireplace aid financially.
Los Angeles-based actor Jamie Lee Curtis, announced She shared on Instagram that her family donated $1 million to relief efforts, while singer Beyoncé's BeyGood Foundation contributed committed $2.5 million for its own fire relief fund. Celebrities Paris Hilton said She would arrange an emergency fund to assist displaced families and allocated $200,000 for it, as actress Halle Berry said donated Clothing for the victims of the fires.
