The flood of internal contract extensions on the Patriots looks set to proceed, as New England reportedly desires to tie down one other member of the defense with a brand new contract.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension that might be value as much as $21 million. The deal also reportedly includes $16.5 million in guaranteed money.

Godchaux, 29, has been with the Patriots since signing as a free agent from New England in 2021. He has been a staple within the lineup since then, starting all but one game in his three seasons with the team.

His presence contained in the line is valued for stopping run attempts and has helped make New England's defense among the finest within the league over the past few seasons despite the team's overall struggles.

The contract extension is the newest in a series of contract extensions that Patriots vice chairman of player personnel Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo – each of whom are spending their first seasons at their respective positions – have agreed to in 2024.

Linebacker Jahlani Tavai, running back Rhamondre Stevenson and safety Jabrill Peppers are among the many players whose contracts were recently prolonged.

The deal also is available in the wake of recent news that Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore can be out indefinitely after being diagnosed with blood clots. New England's leadership, seeking to bolster the position, now has certainly one of its key interior defenders under contract for the subsequent two seasons.
