Disneyland closes ten-year-old attraction to make room for expansion

Disney California Adventure will close a decade-old attraction that serves as an emblem of the once-troubled park's redesign and a tribute to the Main Street USA vehicles that bring kinetic energy to Disneyland's entrance promenade.

According to Disneyland, the Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure will close in early 2025.

The Red Car Trolley opened in 2012 as a part of the redesign of the DCA entrance promenade with a themed motif paying homage to Walt Disney's Twenties Los Angeles.

According to Disneyland, the expansion of Avengers Campus will displace the backstage location of the Red Car Trolley Barn.

Construction of the brand new attractions Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab will begin in 2025. The expansion is anticipated to double the dimensions of the Marvel-themed land.

DCA's Red Car Trolley was closed in 2019 to permit for construction of Avengers Campus and didn’t resume operation until 2022 after the parks closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tram line runs past the futuristic “Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout” constructing and into the high-tech Marvel campus – each buildings that hardly exude the LA ambience of the Twenties.

The tram tracks run through a corner of the Avengers campus near Pym's Test Kitchen and go through a hidden door within the Avengers Headquarters constructing.

The DCA's twin trolleys were modeled on the Pacific Electric Railway, which ran across Los Angeles from 1887 to 1961.

The trolley attraction serves as a mode of transportation that takes users on a scenic ride through Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land, stopping near the DCA fundamental entrance, Carthay Circle Restaurant, the Animation Academy constructing, and the Hyperion Theater.

The 20-seater trolleys are powered by batteries, with the overhead wires running above the vehicles for show only, so D23The on-board batteries are charged overnight within the trolley shed behind the stage.

Disneyland has not yet announced whether the streetcar tracks on Buena Vista Street, Hollywood Boulevard and Avengers Campus can be removed.

The show “Red Car News Boys,” which used the Red Car Trolley as a backdrop, was canceled in 2019.
