According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorcyclist died Monday after he apparently lost control on a curve and crashed right into a boulder on Skyline Boulevard within the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The accident was reported around 1 p.m. after someone reported seeing an overturned 2014 Triumph Tiger 800 motorcycle on Highway 35, also often called Skyline, north of the Ward Road mountaineering trail, the CHP said in a news release.
Emergency crews were the primary to reach on the scene and pronounced the motive force, identified only as a 30-year-old man from Alameda, dead on the scene. His name has not been released publicly until he has been officially identified and his next of kin has been notified by the Santa Clara County Coroner.
A short while later, CHP investigators were called and an initial investigation revealed that the motive force “was unable to negotiate a curve in the road” and subsequently drove off the east shoulder of the road, where he “struck two traffic signs and a 25-foot boulder.”
What allegedly caused the motive force to lose control is currently under investigation, however the CHP said investigators have ruled out alcohol or drug abuse as an element.
