Austria, Hungary, Greece and Italy have recently been particularly vulnerable to the influences of Mother Nature.
A heat wave, forest fires and even a volcanic eruption threaten to make life difficult for residents and cause chaos for tourists.
These are unprecedented conditions that even led to the temporary closure of the Parthenon earlier this yr.
At times, temperatures rose to 40 degrees across Europe. Austria and Hungary were particularly badly affected. Residents and tourists were advised to remain indoors between noon and 4 p.m. Cities similar to Vienna and Budapest have arrange outdoor cooling stations.
The situation has been made worse by wildfires in some areas of Greece and Italy. The heat and dryness have forced evacuations in southern Greece, including some tourist attractions on the favored Greek islands. Some attractions and accommodations are already closed, so travelers should check prematurely. People have already been warned to wear masks against the smoke and ash from the fires.
And no person can do anything about Europe’s most energetic volcano.
On August 14, Mount Etna erupted in Italy, forcing the closure of Catania International Airport in Sicily. It has since reopened, but tourists are strongly advised to envision with their airlines for further disruptions. Tourists are also advised to take out travel insurance.
