OAKLAND – Three people were shot in numerous parts of the town inside lower than 4 hours on Saturday, including a lady and a person who were killed at a homeless encampment in West Oakland, authorities said.
A 3rd person was also injured within the shooting on the homeless camp.
The shooting occurred around 4:25 p.m. Saturday outdoors within the 600 block of twenty third Street, just east of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
At least one person began shooting, and a 29-year-old Oakland woman who authorities said was going out and a 50-year-old Berkeley man were injured. They were pronounced dead on the scene. Their names haven’t been released pending notification of their families.
A 55-year-old man was also injured. He was taken to hospital on his own and is in a stable condition.
The shooter fled, possibly in a vehicle, authorities said.
The police haven’t yet provided any information on whether the shots were targeted or ricocheted. It can be unclear why the victims were within the camp or whether or not they knew one another.
A motive for the shooting has not been announced. No arrests have been made and no details about suspects has been released.
The camp has been the scene of further violence lately, including murders and non-fatal shootings.
The other fatal shooting was reported around 8:02 p.m. Saturday within the 10500 block of E Street, a predominantly residential area in East Oakland.
When police responded to a gunshot detection system alarm, they found a 50-year-old Stockton man shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene. His name has not been released because his family has not yet been notified.
Police are attempting to find out why the person was in Oakland and why he was shot.
The three murders bring the variety of murders investigated by Oakland police this yr to 67. At this time last yr, police had investigated 84 murders in the town.
