On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed when 19 al-Qaeda hijackers took control of 4 passenger planes. Two of the planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, one into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth right into a field in western Pennsylvania. It stays the deadliest terrorist attack in history.
