BRITISH COLUMBIA: A birthday trip took longtime San Jose friends Connie Skipitares, Suzanne Arnaud, birthday girl Maureen Lewis, Kathy Infantino and Shaye Ryall to Victoria in August.
“Victoria is an Anglophile’s dream,” says Connie. “Although this charming city is not on the European continent, it still offers a rich environment of British culture. Afternoon tea is served almost everywhere! At the long-established Empress Hotel, traditional English tea is served daily in the elegant dining room from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Save your money for this lavish experience – $100 per person.”
Other must-see highlights included “spectacular Butchart Gardensa 55-acre flower lover's paradise 30 minutes north; Hatley Castlea sprawling Tudor-style manor house and gardens; and downtown Victoria with lively pubs and quaint shops.”
TRAVEL TIPS: “The Hop-on hop-off double-decker bus tour is a must-do, a two-hour tour around the city that offers us a selection of the main attractions that we returned to on our own tour. In the summer, try to visit Butchart Gardens on a Saturday evening to not only enjoy the flowers at dusk, but also to enjoy an outdoor concert and a breathtaking fireworks display.”
