Trump is taking a rare social media break after his election victory

Donald Trump has never shied away from touting his successes. But after accomplishing arguably the best political feat of his profession, the brand new president-elect has remained silent on the social media platforms where he is generally ubiquitous.

As of Thursday afternoon, Trump had not posted on Truth Social, the platform operated by his social media company Trump mediabecause on election day before all of the polling stations were closed. He also didn’t announce his victory on X, the social media page of his top campaign supporter Elon Musk.

Trump official FacebookInstagram and TikTok accounts have also not been updated since Tuesday. The latest contributions to all three are video messages from Trump urging Republican voters to get in line at their polling stations.

It's unclear whether Trump's online absence is a conscious decision in his messaging or whether he is just taking a break from social media after a campaign during which he posted heavily.

Asked for clarity, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said only: “President Trump won a historic election and will now become the 47th President of the United States.”
