SARATOGA – One person died and three others were hospitalized Thursday after an attempted traffic stop became a chase that resulted in a crash, authorities said.
Santa Clara Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to stop a white Hyundai Elantra in the world of S. De Anza Boulevard and Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino around 3:05 a.m. but saw it drive away, the agency said in a press release .
The automotive later crashed right into a tree in the world of Saratoga Los Gatos Road and Via Colina in Saratoga.
Authorities didn’t discover the deceased passenger and said a second passenger suffered serious injuries and was in stable condition at a hospital. The driver and a 3rd passenger were treated for his or her injuries and were expected to be OK.
The driver was also arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, felony evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, embezzlement of lost or stolen property and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer , authorities said.
The chase began when officers realized the vehicle they spotted had been stolen from San Jose, authorities said. They added that certainly one of the inmates was also wearing a face mask and a hoodie.
During the investigation, the Sheriff's Office closed Saratoga Los Gatos Road southbound at Via Colina and northbound at El Camino Grande.
