Ford is donating $1 million and a fleet of vehicles to Trump's inauguration

Ford Motor Co is donating $1 million and a fleet of vehicles to the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in January, an organization spokesman said Monday.

Policies on tariffs and electric vehicles being considered by the brand new administration would likely affect Detroit automakers like Ford, that are struggling to ramp up and sell their battery-powered models.

Trump, a Republican, has proposed significant tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada and has also proposed eliminating an electrical vehicle tax credit to profit Ford.

Ford CEO Jim Farley told reporters earlier this month that he was optimistic that Trump can be open to hearing the U.S. automaker's views on these measures.

“Given Ford's employment profile and importance to the U.S. economy and manufacturing, one can imagine that the government will be very interested in Ford's position,” Farley said.

Other major firms, including Amazon and Meta Platforms, have also donated to the upcoming inauguration.

Trump raised a record $106.7 million for his 2017 celebrations.

Democratic President Joe Biden raised $61.8 million for his inauguration in 2021, including contributions from corporations Pfizer, AT&T And Boeing.
