VALLEY VIEW, Texas (AP) — Violent storms killed not less than 15 people and left a large trail of destruction in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas on Sunday, destroying homes and a rest area where dozens of individuals had sought shelter in a toilet in the course of the latest deadly storm to hit the central United States.
Stunned residents of a north Texas county searched through their destroyed homes Sunday after seven people were killed when a tornado swept through the distant region near the small community of Valley View.
Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington said “only a trail of rubble” was left in the realm bordering Oklahoma. Among the dead were two children, ages 2 and 5, in Valley View, a town of slightly below 800 residents. The bodies of three relations were present in a residential constructing, the sheriff said.
The system that caused the recent storm is predicted to maneuver eastward over the rest of the vacation weekend.
More severe storms were forecast in Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee.
Meteorologists expect the specter of severe weather to maneuver to North Carolina and Virginia on Monday.
