A current and former Celtic player have spoken out on social media against a narrative that was presented in certainly one of the last episodes of ESPN's Get Up.
Alan Hahn, who hosts a radio show with former Jets linebacker Bart Scott, offered his opinion on the pressure Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are facing during this postseason run.
“They're under two different pressures. I think for Jayson Tatum, it's the pressure to prove he's a winner, and that's the question. For Jaylen Brown, it's the pressure to prove he's an equal, that he's among the elite that was mentioned among them.
“Like he said, I never win anything. I believe he thinks, 'I belong up there with all the opposite names that everybody's talking about.' So there are two different pressures that they feel. It's not a contradiction, it's just separate.”
Jay Williams, a former first-round pick and current analyst, subsequently raised the question of who was the bigger star between Brown and Tatum.
“I don't think we've ever seen two superstars which can be so close and have such similar skill sets. Sometimes you don't know who's 1A,” Williams said. “You really begin to query who's 1A, and that's a natural tension that exists between people. I don't care.”
Former Celtic Leon Powewho works with the team as a community ambassador, contradicted this portrayal.
“You will be judged for your crimes against the Celtics. What kind of attitude is that, the president of CS Nation is in, he's already a winner,” Powe tweeted. “JB doesn't have to prove one bit that he's anyone's equal, that's what you came up with. Let's not compete against each other for likes and reactions. We are CS Nation under the protection of their 2008 NBA Champion, Judge Powe. On2TheNext.”
Celtics striker Oshae Brissett wasn't a fan of the comment either.
“Nah these guys must be bored lol this is getting out of control,” Brissett tweeted with three laughing emojis.
Other media personalities, equivalent to former ESPN columnist Bill Simmonsalso panned the clip.
“Great segment, Greeny,” Simmons wrote sarcastically. “This could get us a million views online. Let's try to keep the Tatum vs. Brown story going until the finale. Dave Roberts just texted me, he loves it!”
Field of 68 Jeff Goodman identified that Tatum seemed blissful for Brown when he was named MVP of the Eastern Conference finals.
“Looks to me like Jayson Tatum is smiling and very happy for Jaylen Brown,” Goodman tweeted. “Especially for someone who isn't very demonstrative when it comes to anything other than Deuce and the officials.”
