Chateau de Villette is greater than a French mansion – it’s a walk through history.
Built within the late seventeenth century with the assistance of Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Notre, each of whom played a key role in the development of the world-famous Palace of Versailles, created seven suites within the foremost constructing of the palace, all of which were designed within the extravagant variety of the era of Louis XV.
The grounds aren’t any less spacious: they extend over 75 hectares of forest and have several lakes and artistically designed gardens.
The castle was once a fertile ground for visits by intellectuals reminiscent of Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine. Today's guests include celebrities reminiscent of Tom Cruise and writer Dan Brown, whose bestseller “The Da Vinci Code” was adapted right into a film and shot at this location.
A serious selling point for the castle is its history, but after the Heritage Collection bought the home in 2011, an intensive renovation added many modern wonders, said Suzanne Isore, who wrote a book concerning the castle's history.
“You may not believe it, but right beneath my feet is a marvel of hydraulic engineering. It is a 15-ton block of stone that descends to reveal the castle's swimming pool,” she told CNBC.
The castle is situated about 40 minutes from Paris city center and rents for nearly $270,000 every week.
