The last one that could be surprised that Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday morning in connection together with his drinking and partying behavior could be Timberlake himself.
Nearly 20 years before an allegedly “drugged” Timberlake was handcuffed by police within the Hamptons and charged with drunk driving, the pop star spoke openly about his partying, excessive drinking and drug use in an interview with a British magazine. He said he took drugs and got “drunk” in private, but was careful never to get caught.
“I truly believe I have never done anything so bad,” he said. he told the Observer Music Monthly in 2006. “I don't show up to events drunk; the drugs I do, I do in my free time. I've never been arrested – but that doesn't mean I'll never be arrested.”
Timberlake also admitted that he has gotten into trouble with “women, drugs and debauchery,” saying, “Like everyone else – I get totally drunk.” He again said he has taken “my fair share of drugs” and has been “caught in places with my pants down.”
Timberlake added to the magazine: “I just make sure there are no cameras around.”
A music insider told Page Six Tuesday that Timberlake has had “a real drinking problem” for years.
“It's no secret. Everyone knows,” said the music insider. “He has a real drinking problem, he smokes a lot of weed – but also a major drinking problem, and he's been hiding and covering it up for years.”
The Daily Mail quoted its sources as saying that Timberlake’s Alcohol consumption has escalated in recent months while attempting to address the backlash sparked by his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears' revelations about him in her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me.”
But despite the fact that Timberlake managed to cover his drinking problem from the general public, his other sandals have long been caught on camera over time.
In 2002, the previous NSYNC singer released a video for his hit song “Cry Me a River” by which he alleged that Britney Spears had cheated on him during their relationship from 1999 to 2002.
But lately, Spears has had the last word, revealing in her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” that Timberlake cheated on her with one other celebrity and pressured her to have an abortion she didn't want because he felt he was too young to develop into a father at 19.
The cameras also caught the “Nipplegate” incident on the 2004 Super Bowl, when a “wardrobe malfunction” led to Timberlake exposing Janet Jackson's breasts while they performed together on the halftime show. Jackson was effectively “exiled” while Timberlake was kind of unscathed, in line with the New York Times.
Just recently in 2019, paparazzi cameras caught an apparently drunk Timberlake in New Orleans exchanging caresses, holding hands and reportedly flirting with Alisha Wainwright, his female co-star within the film “Palmer.”
The photos raised questions on the state of his marriage to actress Jessica Biel and whether the previous NSYNC singer was returning to the behavior that reportedly led to him and then-girlfriend Biel splitting in 2011. Timberlake also had a highly publicized romance with Cameron Diaz before he began dating Biel. Timberlake's behavior included “rampant affairs with other women,” including a widely publicized “affair” with actress Olivia Munn in 2010, Us Weekly reported on the time. But Timberlake and Biel eventually reconciled, married in 2012 and have become parents of a son, Silas, in 2015.
Shortly after the incident in New Orleans, Timberlake apologized for his “error in judgment” and said he had “had way too much to drink that night.” However, he insisted that nothing had happened between him and Wainwright.
Two months after that incident, Timberlake and Biel's relationship was still strained. Biel was reportedly “still upset,” a source told Us Weekly on the time. But Timberlake and Biel reconciled, stayed together, and welcomed their second son, Phineas, in 2020.
Now the “SexyBack” singer is once more involved in a scandal: He was arrested in Sag Harbor after leaving a hotel where he had eaten and “partied” with “a few friends”. in line with TMZ, Page Six and other news agencies.
Witnesses told the New York Post that Timberlake was “drunk” on the American Hotel in Sag Harbor when he grabbed someone's drink as they went to the toilet and downed it.
TMZ also reported that police body cameras were present during Timberlake's arrest, which got here after he failed a breathalyzer test.
TMZ reported that Timberlake left the American Hotel around 12:30 a.m. He followed friends to their home in his own vehicle, a gray BMW SUV. About a half-mile from the hotel, police noticed him disregarding a stop sign and followed him, observing him repeatedly veering out of his lane and continuing to drive for an additional half-mile, law enforcement sources told TMZ.
After police stopped Timberlake, he told the officer he had only had a martini on the hotel, TMZ reported. However, a report on the arrest said the officer noticed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, slowed speech and the smell of alcohol on his breath, TMZ reported. Timberlake also performed “poorly” on sobriety tests.
Page Six reported that the police officer who stopped Timberlake was “so young he didn't even know” who the ten-time Grammy winner was. A source also told Page Six that “Justin quietly said, 'This is going to ruin the tour.'”
When the officer asked, “Which tour?” Timberlake replied, “The world tour.”
Timberlake is currently on his “Forget Tomorrow” tour, performing hits from his profession in addition to his latest album, “Everything I Thought It Was.” He will perform in Chicago Friday and Saturday nights after which return to New York next week to perform at Madison Square Garden.
TMZ said the police report didn’t mention that Timberlake's friends tried to arise for him throughout the traffic stop, but each TMZ and Page Six reported that the chums asked the officer to “give him a break.”
Otherwise, Timberlake was polite and “didn't show any entitlement at all,” a source told Page Six. He refused to take a breathalyzer test, but that was “his right,” the source said.
The “SexyBack” singer was delivered to court on Tuesday morning and released from custody on a parole.
Biel was also in New York, the New York Post reported. On Monday, the day before her husband's arrest, the seventh Heaven star was spotted in New York's Central Park filming a scene for her upcoming Amazon Prime series The Better Sister. And on Sunday, she posted a Father's Day tribute to him on Instagram.
Alongside a photograph of himself kissing her on the cheek, Biel wrote: “You are so many things to so many people. But to us, you are THE ROCK. The rock we climb on, the rock we lean on. The rock that protects us from the sun. And when we lean on you like we always do, hopefully our butts will keep you grounded and warm forever.”
“We LOVE YOU,” she added with a heart emoji.
