Another member of the Ortiz family is officially within the Red Sox organization.

Boston chosen David Ortiz's son D'Angelo with its Nineteenth-round pick (567th overall) within the 2024 MLB Draft on Tuesday.

D'Angelo Ortiz, 20, is a 3rd baseman/outfielder who last played for Miami Dade Community College in Kendall, Florida.

Ortiz, a 6-foot-1 right-hander, played 51 games for Miami Dade CC last season, posting a .377 batting average with one home run, seven doubles and 35 RBIs.

The younger Ortiz spent most of his childhood with the Red Sox. He was born just over three months before his father, and the Red Sox ended an 86-year championship drought in 2004. He later attended highschool at Westminster Christian in Palmetto Bay, Florida.

Ortiz is not any newcomer to baseball within the Boston area, nonetheless. In two of the last three summers, Ortiz played for the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate League and has a .311 batting average with seven RBIs and 4 stolen bases in 11 games up to now this season.

During the 2022 season with Brockton, D'Angelo played on the identical Rox team with the sons of former Red Sox stars Manny Ramirez, Pedro Martinez and Keith Foulke. Now, Ortiz could have the chance to follow in his father's footsteps as he heads to Fenway Park.
